Jul 26, 2023Vrabel finishes assembling Patriots' 2025 coaching staff
By Khari A. Thompson
Patriots coach Mike Vrabel has completed his coaching staff, the team said in a news release.
Vrabel’s three coordinators were announced earlier this month.
Josh McDaniels, who spent more than a decade as Patriots offensive coordinator under Bill Belichick, will return in that role. Terrell Williams, who most recently served as defensive line coach for the Detroit Lions, will be the defensive coordinator. The Patriots retained Jeremy Springer as special teams coordinator.
“The goal in filling out the 2025 Patriots coaching staff was to identify loyal, trustworthy coaches who are diverse in background, ideas, experiences and systems,” Vrabel said. “We will be aligned in our vision to teach and develop our players with creativity, consistency and an attention to detail with the major goal of developing relationships that stretch beyond the field and meeting rooms.”

The Patriots have four former NFL head coaches on this staff. Offensive line coach Doug Marrone had head coaching stints in Jacksonville and Buffalo. McDaniels coached the Raiders and Broncos. Senior defensive assistant Ben McAdoo spent two seasons as the Giants head coach. Brown was interim coach of the Bears for a few weeks last season after Matt Eberflus was fired.
There are also several coaches that worked with Vrabel during his previous stop with the Titans. Williams coached defensive line for five seasons with Tennessee. Tony Dews coached running backs there. Todd Downing coached tight ends there before being promoted to offensive coordinator. Jason Houghtaling, Clint McMillan, and Zac Kuhr are also among the coaches who have prior experience with the Titans.
Vrabel kept Deron Mayo, the brother of former Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo, as strength and conditioning coach.
