Jul 23, 2023Endings - Elden Ring Guide - IGN
This Elden Ring Guide covers all of the currently known endings that can be unlocked at the final stage of your journey across the Lands Between. On this page, you can expect details of the different endings you'll encounter depending on the choices you've made in the game, as well as the questlines you'll need to have completed to unlock them.
So you want all the ending trophies in Elden Ring, but you don’t want to play the game multiple times to get them. No worries: this guide will show you how to earn every ending trophy with a single playthrough. The in-game steps are the same no matter where you’re playing, but save scumming works differently on PS5, PS4, and Xbox.
As soon as you beat the Elden Beast, let the cutscene play out and stop. At this point, you need to pause the game and quit out to the menu, creating a save file. Now here’s where things change depending on your platform.
PlayStation 4 is the easiest. Go to your settings menu and choose Application Saved Data Management, then Saved Data in System Storage. From here, you can copy that Elden Ring save to a USB drive. Hang onto that file, and whatever you do, do not replace it during this process.
For PS5, you’re going to need a PlayStation Plus account. Sony unfortunately took away USB save files in the new generation. So go to settings and select Saved Data and Game/App Settings. Choose Saved Data PS5, then Upload or Delete from Console Storage. Upload your Elden Ring save to the cloud. Much like with the USB, do not replace this cloud save until you’ve gotten all the trophies.
Xbox is the tricky one here, so be extra careful. For right now, all you need to do is quit to Elden Ring’s menu and then fully exit the game with the quit command on the Xbox menu. Your cloud save will automatically be uploaded on Xbox’s end -- no subscription needed here. Restart your console to make sure it went through: you’ll know when you boot the game back up and start off in the same spot. From this point on, we will never use that quit command again, so keep that in mind.
We’ll start with Elden Lord. When you approach Fractured Marika, you can choose any of the available options. All four will trigger a version of the Elden Lord ending, and you’ll get your first trophy. Nice and simple.
PlayStation players can move on to the next step. Xbox players, pay attention: do not exit the game once the achievement pops, as this will mess up your cloud save. Instead, use the Xbox button to go back to the home screen, then hover over Elden Ring. Press Start, choose Manage game, then choose Saved Data. Select your profile, then delete your save from the console only. This will automatically close Elden Ring, but it won’t overwrite your cloud save.
We’ll do Age of the Stars next. The Age of Stars ending is available once you’ve fully completed Ranni the Witch's entire side quest. So as long as you’ve done this before defeating the Elden Beast, then Ranni’s blue summoning sign will be in the Elden Beast’s lair.
Before interacting with it, PS4 players need to quit the game and go back to their Application Saved Data management tab, then select Saved Data on USB Device. Import that file, and you will be warned about overwriting your console save. Choose yes: this is exactly how the save scum works.
On PS5, return to Saved Data and Game/App Settings. This time, choose Download or Delete from Cloud Storage. Download the cloud save we made after the boss fight. You’ll be asked if you want to replace your local save, and you should say yes to this too.
When you return to the game on PlayStation, you’ll be back in the Elden Beast’s Lair, ready to choose a different ending. Xbox players have already done what they need to do; booting up Elden Ring will download their cloud save and drop them back in the same spot. This time, interact with Ranni’s blue summoning sign on the ground to call her and roll the Age of the Stars ending. Once that finishes playing out, you’ll get your second ending trophy. Xbox players should wait for the achievement again, use the Xbox button to tab back to the home screen, and delete their local Elden Ring save file once again -- all without ever closing Elden Ring themselves.
Now for Lord of the Frenzied Flame. Setting up this ending requires you to venture through the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, fighting Mohg the Omen, and meeting with the aforementioned Three Fingers. Doing so will give you only one option after the Elden Beast fight.
On PS4, quit the game, return to your USB device, and overwrite the local save again. On PS5, quit, go back to Saved Data and Game/App Settings, and download your cloud save, replacing the local save file again. Xbox players are already set: they can boot up Elden Ring, which will trigger their cloud save, sending them back to just after the Elden Beast fight.
This time when you boot up the game, you’re free to meet with the Three Fingers: this will soft-lock you into the last ending. When you return to Fractured Marika, you’ll burn everything down, trigger the ending, and get your final trophy.
Now, it’s not the end of the world if you already met with the Three Fingers before save scumming, but it does affect the order here. Xbox players, save and quit Elden Ring normally after the Elden Beast fight so that your cloud save is in the right place. Boot it up again and trigger the ending, then press the Home button after the Frenzied Flame achievement and repeat the process of deleting your local save without ever quitting the game in the normal way. Then you can safely reboot the game from just after the big fight via your cloud save.
On PlayStation, you’ll have to use the USB or upload your cloud save after the Elden Beast fight as usual, then get the Frenzied Flame ending first. Upon overwriting the local save or downloading your cloud save, you will then have to complete Millicent’s side quest to cleanse yourself of the flame.
Once you’re clean, you can return to the Elden Beast’s room and repeat the same methods we just gave you to save scum the Elden Lord and Age of Stars endings and their accompanying trophies.
There are currently six known endings to Elden Ring, with the Age of Fracture considered to be the standard ending. The other five are achieved by completing side quests from various NPCs you will have encountered in the Lands Between. Below are details on how to unlock each ending, and what that means for your Tarnished.
This is the standard ending for Elden Ring, seeing your Tarnished take the throne and become Elden Lord after choosing to Mend the Elden Ring after the final boss battle.
Getting this ending only requires you to follow the story and beat each of the Main Bosses.
To achieve this ending, you’ll need to have completed the Ranni the Witch Questline so you can use the Dark Moon Ring on Ranni. After the last boss battle, you can summon Ranni using the stones. She’ll promise that now is the ages of the stars, and refer to your character as her consort, eternal.
To get this ending you'll have to follow these steps:
To achieve this ending, you’ll need to have completed the Brother Corhyn Questline. This will give you the option to Use Mending Rune of Perfect Order instead of Mend the Elden Ring after the final boss battle.
This ending seems to repair the Lands Between after the burning of the Erdtree and restore order.
To get this ending you'll have to follow these steps:
To achieve this ending, you’ll need to have completed the Fia Questline and the Ranni the Witch Questline to the point where you receive the statue to invert Carian Hall. This will allow you to Use Mending Rune of the Death-Prince instead of choosing to Mend the Elden Ring after the final boss battle. It sees your Tarnished take the throne, as ashes fall around them.
To get this ending you'll have to follow these steps:
After the boss battle, choose to become Lord of the Frenzied Flame instead of Elden Lord. To achieve this ending, you’ll need to find the three fingers in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds.
To get this ending you'll have to follow these steps:
This ending is connected to the Hyetta Questline and seems to have a connection to the Bloody Finger Hunter Yura Questline, too.
To achieve this ending, you’ll need to complete the Dung Eater Questline that sees you give Dung Eater enough Seedbed Curse to free his form and get the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse. After the boss battle, you’ll then be able to choose to either: Mend the Elden RIng or Use Mending Rune of the Fell Curse.
By choosing Use Mending Rune of the Fell Curse, your Tarnished will become Elden Lord but also unleash destruction upon the Lands Between with a vile curse.
To get this ending you'll have to follow these steps:
